On December 2nd, we celebrated the 29th annual lighting of the Norwegian Christmas Tree with family and friends at Union Station.

Before lighting the tree, Norwegian Ambassador to the U.S. Anniken Huitfeldt emphasized how this long-standing tradition symbolizes Norway's gratitude for U.S. assistance during World War II.

As we celebrate 200 years of organized Norwegian migration to the United States, the event also demonstrated the enduring strength of Transatlantic ties.

With Fox 5 Good Day DC's Marissa Mitchell as the event emcee, we heard performances that blended Norwegian and American holiday songs and traditions.

The evening began with the Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel Choir filling the halls with their joyful voices. Mars Arts D.C. artist Dan Murray then showcased his powerful voice with Christmas songs, and Norwegian singer Olivia Husabø enchanted the audience as she closed the performances by singing a Norwegian Christmas song, Selma’s sang, beneath the illuminated tree.

The ceremony concluded with a visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, accompanied by their elves, who greeted the children in attendance.

A special thank you to our partners from the Norwegian Embassy, Washington Performing Arts, and Union Station as well as all of the sponsors for making the event possible:

Equinor | Kongsberg Defense US | Nammo AS | Teledyne FLIR

Innovation Norway | Norsk Hydro | BAO Systems | DNV
