The 23rd Annual Norwegian Christmas Tree was lit in Washington D.C at Union Station last night. This event is made possible through partner cooperation between the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce Mid-Atlantic Chapter, The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Washington D.C, Washington Performing Arts and WHUR 96.3. Norway presents this tree to the people of Washington D.C in recognition of the strong friendship between Norway and the United States, and as a sign of gratitude for America’s assistance during and after World War II.
The theme of this year’s Christmas Tree ornaments, is the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals. His Excellency Ambassador Kåre Aas shared welcoming remarks, followed by keynote speaker Norwegian Parliamentary Member, Linda Helleland who also addressed the importance of the 2030 sustainability goals. We were grateful to have Linda Helleland as our honorary guest this evening to present the Christmas Tree to the people of Washington.
The Children of the Gospel Choir and The String Queens ensured great entertainment and a beautiful selection of musical pieces, giving the audience all the Christmas feels.
Children in the crowd even got to meet Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus who had taken the Polar Express to be with us this evening, a great wrap up to a successful event.
Thank you to everyone who participated and a very special shout-out to our corporate members who sponsored this year’s Christmas Tree and made last night possible! Thank you Equinor, KONGSBERG, Nammo Inc, Innovation Norway, FLIR Systems, BAO Systems.
