The firm grip of the coronavirus pandemic on the global economy has been disruptive in the maritime sector. Continuing business in a safe and flexible manner and keeping close contact with partners and customers are key to ensuring the viability of the whole industry.

Allan Krogsgaard, Principal Surveyor and Business Development Director, DNV GL.
​
​Mr. Krogsgaard has over 25 years of international experience in the maritime industry with a focus on naval architecture and marine engineering. After graduating as a naval architect in Denmark he went on to work for his family’s ship consultancy firm in Denmark and Rolls-Royce Marine (now Kongsberg Maritime) in Aalesund, Norway.
​
This was followed by AP Moller, Maersk Ship Design overseeing design and construction of vessels at AP Moller’s Odense Steel Ship Yard in Denmark and at China Shipbuilding Corporation in Taiwan. In 1999 he relocated to California and worked with Herbert Engineering Corp. as a Naval Architect with focus on vessel conversions and dockings in China as well as cargo and stability software development for US based shipping clients. Since 2006 Mr. Krogsgaard has served DNV GL as principal surveyor, station manager for New York, Montreal and Halifax and latest as key account and business development director for key maritime clients in North Eastern United States. Furthermore, he is DNV GL’s global Key Account Manager for USCG.

Boriana Farrar, Vice President, Senior Claims Executive and Counsel at the American P&I Club in New York.
Ms. Farrar handles a variety of P& I and FD&D Claims with focus on personal injury crew and passenger claims, casualties, charter party and contract disputes. Boriana also serves as a Business Development of the Americas for is responsible for marketing and production in this region.
Previously, Ms. Farrar was working at a leading New York maritime law firm Hill Betts & Nash LLP. There, as a partner in its maritime practice, she had responsibility for conducting a broad range of litigation in the area of maritime disputes in both federal and state court, including matters involving: personal injury, maritime casualties, breach of contract and various other insurance defense disputes.
Ms. Farrar holds a Master’s Degree in Admiralty & Maritime Law from Tulane Law School where she was a part of Tulane Maritime Law Journal and Tulane Moot Court team. Ms. Farrar holds another Master’s Degree in International Law from the University of San Diego School of Law. She has a thorough international background, having pursued her legal studies not only in the U.S. but also in her native Bulgaria, the U.K. and the Netherlands. In addition to her native language, she is fluent in English, Russian and German.
Ms. Farrar is Board Member of Women International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA), Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) and Marine Insurance and Claims Association (MICA).

Laura Sherman, Director, Marketing & Communications Operations Technology Officer, IRI/The Marshall Islands Registry
Ms. Sherman joined International Registries, Inc. and its affiliated group of companies (IRI) in 2001 as a Marketing Coordinator, and was promoted to Director, Marketing and Communications in 2007. Ms. Sherman serves as an excellent resource for implementing corporate and maritime marketing programs and acting as a communications liaison both internally and externally for the company. In late 2014, she was asked to also take on the role of Operations Technology Officer, working with the different offices and departments to ensure that all aspects of the implementation of information
technology services were considered across the company. She received her M.B.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University, is a cum laude graduate from James Madison University with a B.A. in History and Philosophy, and former Director of Communications for an estate planning law firm. Ms. Sherman has been a member of WISTA since 2004 and a member of the WISTA USA Board since 2008.

James Knutson, HSQE Manager and DPA, Sealift Inc.
James Knutson joined Sealift Inc. as Chief Officer on one of the last tramp, tween deck ships. After advancing in his career to become a licensed Master working international trade routes, he transitioned to the Sealift Inc. office as the DPA. Using his working knowledge of the fleet operations, he brought key insight to the DPA role. In 2017, he was promoted to HSQE Manager, and his area of responsibility broadened to represent Sealift Inc. as the liaison with US Coast Guard and Classification Societies.
James has navigated the reflagging of multiple container ships to the USA Flag and facilitated the modern Flag & Class Society process for Sealift Inc. He is currently driving the HSQE and Company Policy to the digital era to ensure Sealift Inc. remains a tactical vessel owner and operator. James is a graduate of the State University of New York - Maritime College and a member of the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce, as his family from Grimstad has conducted business in New York for over 100 years.
