On Monday March 23rd the Select US Summit was kicked off in the Washington DC area. The Summit provided potential foreign investors from all corners of the world with a wealth information and opportunities in one place as why a company should invest in the US. The Summit was a two day event with more than 2,600 attendees. Speakers at both the break out and joint sessions where global CEO’s and Senior US leaders. During the Summit both President Obama and Secretary Kerry spoke.
Our Norwegian delegation consisted of a strong industry presence and representatives of the NACC chapters in New York(Inger Tallaksen ), Philadelphia (Frode Kjersem), Chicago (Susan Meyer ) and Mid Atlantic (Katharina Brekke Powers), as well as representatives from AmCham (Jason Turflinger ) and US Embassy in Oslo (Vidar Keyn).
Norwegian industry was also well represented with Statoil (Evan Fuery ), NAMMO Inc (Pete Sioma ), Kongsberg(Anders Rønningen),Prox Dynamics (Arne Skjaerpe), Innovation Norway (Einar Gustafson).
It provided Norwegian companies who attended with an unique opportunity to not only participate in break-out sessions which provided insight on important topics for potential investors in areas such as trade agreements/foreign trade zones/immigration/intellectual property/tax issues etc. In addition to these interesting break-out sessions it also provided our delegation with opportunities to meet with various state development authorities – all the states were represented and put on a trade show exhibiting everything that each state had to offer. The Summit provided some unique networking opportunities as well as online matchmaking for those who were interested.
Norway was clearly of interest by the US government since we are the fifth fastest growing source of Foreign Direct Investment in the US between 2009-2013. (China no. 1/Hungary no. 2/Luxembourg no. 3/India no. 4.)
