About the event

Get in the holiday spirit with the annual Norwegian Christmas Tree Lighting. Every year Norway gifts the people of D.C. a Christmas Tree as a show of friendship between Norway and D.C. and gratitude for U.S. support during and after WWII. The tradition dates back to 1997 and it is one of the most popular holiday events in D.C.

The event is free to the public. The line-up includes performances from the East of the River Steelband, the Wicked Sycamore, Rayshun LaMarr, and tenThing, and remarks from H.E. Anniken Krutnes, Ambassador of Norway to the United States.
